TOM NPC Gets Fresh Start for 2026

The Two Oceans Marathon NPC board yesterday received an injection of new faces following the resignation of many directors after the difficulties experienced in staging the 2025 event in April.
The two Founding Members; Western Province Athletics and Celtic Harriers, in accordance with the company MOI, have each nominated new directors to join the four surviving members of the old board. This board will serve in an interim capacity until the Annual General Meeting to be held in September.
Celtic Harriers life member and long-serving WPA official, Chris Goldschmidt, was elected as the interim chairman, with Glenn Muller chosen as vice-chairman.
The full interim board of the TOM NPC is: Mr Chris Goldschmidt, Mr Glenn Muller, Mr Achmat Jacobs, Mr Julius Oosthuizen, Ms Nombini Zaku, Mr Craig February, Mr Stuart Mann, Mr Krishnajumar Patel, Mr Ashraf Orrie, Ms Toni Cavanagh, Ms Phumi Mlotshwa.
Top priority for the new board is to continue the work of the previous board to repair the relationship between the event and the City of Cape Town following the breach of the permit conditions for the number of participants in this year’s race, as well as restoring the trust of the running community following incidents at this year’s event which detracted from their race experience. A comprehensive reform package has already been presented to the relevant City departments who were responsive and remain positively engaged, with ongoing meetings scheduled so that joint communication and coordinated planning can proceed.
A key reform unanimously agreed by the board is to appoint an Events Management Company to work closely with the board as a delivery partner for the 2026 event and beyond. The board is already in contact with several prospective suppliers but would welcome enquiries from any interested parties with proven experience in event operations.
Results of the 2025 event are still provisional pending the finalisation of the anti-doping process. Runners’ profiles on the Two Oceans database will only be updated once final clearance is received from ASA/SAIDS.
