The Two Oceans Marathon NPC is proud to announce that it has once again been crowned as a Gold Label Status event by the International Association of Ultrarunners (IAU), which operates under the patronage of World Athletics.

This is the highest international accolade attainable for an ultra marathon. It comes as the Totalsports Two Oceans Marathon continues its countdown with a mere 50 days to go to the 2025 race.

Introduced in 2008, the label ensures that there is a parity of standards for ultra marathon races throughout the world. It also means that in the upcoming Totalsports Two Oceans Marathon 2025, all continental and international records, along with elite personal best performances, will be officially recognised by the IAU and World Athletics.

The label is not automatically renewed. It is awarded via formal application every twelve calendar months, with stringent criteria being used to assess every race.

These include race course measurement with a Jones Counter and a measurement process that conforms to exacting World Athletics regulations.

As an organisation, the Two Oceans Marathon must also follow the technical and organisational IAU guidelines that are published for IAU Championships.
